FAQ: Never tie laces again! ZUBITS magnetic lacing solution 2.0
For the most up-to-date information about the status of our project, check our project updates on Kickstarter!

Will the magnets lose their strength?

No. Not unless you find a way to heat them over 176° fahrenheit. Neodymium magnets don’t lose their magnetism over time or from other magnets (ceramic refrigerator magnets can). The magnets are enclosed in plastic and protected from corrosion and elements. Last updated: Tue, Jul 12 2016 1:27 pm EDT

Will Zubits closures work on my shoes? Or boots? Or soccer shoes?

Zubits work on nearly any shoes in which you would normally tie the laces. They don’t work with velcro shoes. Zubits work great on boots. There is a little challenge on boots with speed laces (no holes up top) but there are work-around to make them work. Hard sole shoes like soccer or baseball shoes can also cause the Zubits closures to pop open from time to time. Please choose size #3 Zubits for the most secure hold. Do Zubits closures hold securely?

Running, going to the gym, riding a bike, playing at the playground, and most recreational sports activities won’t be a problem for most users of Zubits. Zubits have been designed to be much stronger than normal neodymium magnets alone. They are designed to hold your shoe securely during use, while still being easy enough to pop off when your done. Therefore, Zubits are offered in different sizes to reach a balance between secure use and easy release. So if you ever have concerns about performance, we recommend you choose the next stronger size Zubits than would normally be recommended for you. The stronger size magnets are not that much harder to pop off. My large male friends have used Zubits for running and the gym with no problems. Zubits are designed for casual shoes and recreational sports, so there are some high-level sports in which Zubits could separate under extreme movement or by larger individuals. If high performance is of great importance, again, choose the size #3 Zubits or if you are a large individual, consider not purchasing Zubits for that activity. The variables that affect Zubits are heavy individuals, extreme movements or flexing, and particularly stiff soled shoes. Zubits are usually not recommended for hard-sole athletic cleats used for soccer match play, High School football, or organized sports. When my 6’5” 235lb friend made hard running cuts on grass with his stiff soccer cleats, the Zubits popped open about 5% of the time. So this is why we can’t say they work on all people and all shoes all the time. In any situation, loosening the laces just a little greatly helps prevent them from splitting during activity. Will I come home with nails stuck to my shoes?

No. Zubits closures have been specifically designed to greatly reduce any external magnetism emitting from the plastic casing of the Zubits. Nearly all the magnetism is directed toward the closing face of the magnet. It is difficult to stick even a small screw to the side of a Zubit. We have just never seen this be a problem in actual use. And you won’t come home with nails stuck to your shoe. Of course, if you separate the magnets, metal will certainly stick to the face of the magnet, but it’s no problem to slide something off. In the video, when we hang the shoes to a metal object, this is being done by the face of the magnets, not with the Zubits closed. Last updated: Tue, Jul 12 2016 1:39 pm EDT

Can Zubits closures pinch fingers?

Zubits rarely pinch fingers in normal use, but a pinched finger is possible and can sometimes cause some pain. People need to grab the outside of the magnets to pull them together. Thus users rarely place their fingers where the magnets join. Putting a child’s whole finger between even the strongest adult size magnets only “holds” a finger with no discomfort. That being said, a child can play with the Zubits and it can be possible to get the side of a finger pinched. We recommend that parents do the installation. When our own children play with our the magnets and get pinched (we have had many laying around the house), they are more startled than hurt and they continue playing with the magnets anyways ignoring the discomfort. Adult fingers are generally too thick and tough for much pinching to occur. Last updated: Tue, Jul 12 2016 1:39 pm EDT

For International Shipment, will I have to pay an import customs tax?

Every country has their own Duty or VAT tax policy, some charge it and some do not. And sometimes packages go through without being charged Duty and some times they get stopped to pay Duty. It all depends on the country and the local customs office. So these are charges you may have to pay and they are charges made at the discretion of your country’s policy. We hope that you don’t get charged, but if you do, you are supporting your country’s services. It is your responsibility to know and pay to import a product into your country. And legally, Zubits cannot list a purchased product as a “gift” or with a dollar amount below the purchase price. That’s just the laws we are required to follow. How can Zubits be easy to step out of, yet stay on when you play sports?

The force when you step on your heel with your opposite foot is very strong. So the Zubits magnets will separate when you do this. Consider that even with your regular shoelaces double-knotted, you can still step on your heel and squeeze out of your shoes because this action generates a lot of force. People do it all the time. But when you run, your shoes still stay on. When you run, the shoelaces are mostly lifting the weight of your shoe. Zubits are engineered to be incredibly strong for their size. Zubits can hold your shoe secure while running and jumping, but they will split open when you step on your heel because the forces are much greater. Last updated: Mon, Aug 1 2016 3:07 pm EDT

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
